Preamble
We the Young Democrats of Porter County, in order to further the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party, promote the election of Democratic candidates for public office at all levels, encourage civic engagement among young people, and foster unity and fellowship, establish this Constitution of the Porter County Young Democrats (PCYD).
Article I: Name & Objectives
Section 1: Name
The name of this organization shall be Porter County Young Democrats (PCYD).
Section 2: Objectives
- Support and elect Democratic candidates for public office.
- Increase youth engagement in government and civic life.
- Develop young leaders.
- Serve the community.
- Promote activism on youth issues.
- Increase representation of underrepresented communities.
- Provide networking and social opportunities.
Article II: Policy
Section 1: PCYD shall contribute to the growth and influence of the Democratic Party.
Section 2: PCYD shall support only candidates endorsed by the Porter County Democratic Party.
Section 3: PCYD shall remain neutral in Democratic nomination contests until settled.
Section 4: PCYD shall support Democratic candidates and platforms at all levels.
Section 5: PCYD shall recruit members from the entire community.
Section 6: PCYD shall act consistent with this Constitution and Democratic Party principles.
Article III: Membership & Dues
Section 1: Eligibility
Membership is open to individuals ages 14–35 who support Democratic Party principles. No discrimination is permitted.
Section 2: Associate Members
Members in good standing for at least one year who reach age 41 may become non-voting associate members.
Section 3: Removal
Members or officers may be removed by majority vote for cause following Executive Committee review.
Article IV: Officers
Officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Parliamentarian, Communications & Content Director.
- President: Presides and manages operations.
- Vice President: Assumes presidency if needed.
- Secretary: Records meeting minutes.
- Treasurer: Manages finances and reports.
- Parliamentarian: Oversees rules and bylaws.
- Communications Director: Oversees messaging and social media.
Officers are elected annually by plurality vote of members in good standing.
Articles V–X Overview
- Article V: Monthly meetings; 30% quorum required.
- Article VI: Executive Committee governance.
- Article VII: Grievance and disciplinary procedures governed by Bylaws.
- Article VIII: Governed by Robert’s Rules of Order.
- Article IX: Amendments require two-thirds vote.
- Article X: Bylaws may be amended by majority vote with 20 days notice.
