Parliamentarian Role

Help guide the Porter County Indiana Young Democrats by ensuring meetings are fair, organized, and aligned with our bylaws and democratic procedures.

Expected Time Commitment

  •  One regular meeting per month
  •  Every third Saturday at 3:00 PM
  •  Time required to learn and understand procedural rules

Duration of Position

6 months to 1 year (flexible depending on availability and organizational needs).

Position Goal

The Parliamentarian shall maintain a working knowledge of the bylaws and resolutions of PCIYD and Robert’s Rules of Order. The role handles disputes of bylaw interpretation, chairs the Rules Committee when called upon, and helps set and maintain agendas for both PCIYD and Executive Board meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Know and interpret the PCIYD bylaws
  • Know the resolutions of PCIYD
  • Understand and apply Robert’s Rules of Order
  • Chair the Rules Committee when called upon
  • Maintain agendas for regular and executive meetings
